Basics
What day / time / place does SCBL bowl?
SCBL normally bowls on Sundays during the fall and winter at 6:20 PM at Bowlero Pittsburgh. View our bowling schedule.
How much does it cost to join SCBL?
It costs $30 to join SCBL. The $30 is the registration fee for the United States Bowling Congress. This fee is charged once per year, usually at the beginning of the season in August.
How much does it cost to bowl per week?
The current league dues are $20 per week. Dues are collected weekly. You can prepay for part of a season, or a whole season at once, and if you need to skip a week or two, you can do so as well. However, if you go more than four weeks overdue, you will not be able to bowl until your dues are brought current.
How many weeks of bowling are there in a season?
The full bowling schedule is a total of 26 weeks, divided into two 13-week seasons (Fall/Winter and Winter/Spring).
Can I bring a guest?
Yes! A guest can bowl as what is called a pacer for $15 per week . This is a great way to try out bowling on the league without having to join. However, scores bowled by a pacer do not count toward team totals nor are they included in the average records.
What equipment do I need?
Getting started, you don’t need any equipment. Rental bowling shoes are included in your league dues, and there are a variety of house bowling balls available at the lanes ranging from 6 to 16 pounds. However, if you plan on bowling regularly, getting your own bowling ball and shoes will help improve your scores, and make you a better bowler.
How can I see the rankings and my average?
The easiest way to do so is through the LeaguePals app, available both online and on your Apple or Android smartphone. Shortly after bowling is completed for the week, the league rankings and your average will be updated in the LeaguePals app. The weekly results sheet are also posted to the web site as well.
If I miss a week, do I still have to pay?
Yes. The reason being is that the charge that the league pays Bolwero is per player, not per game. Thus, if you miss a week, SCBL still has to pay Bowlero since you are a bowler on a team.
Can I pre-bowl / roll off games ?
Yes. League bowlers have the option to roll off if they know they are going to miss a week. Roll offs must be done before the week to be missed.
Call the lanes at 412-922-4622 to verify they have open lanes. Arrive at the lanes, and tell the desk that you are there to roll off for Steel City Bowling League. They will assign you a pair of lanes with some warmup time. You will bowl your 3 games.
It is suggested to take pictures of your games, but it isn’t absolutely necessary. When you are done, tell the desk and they will give you a printout of your games. Verify your scores and write on the sheet that it is for the Steel City Bowling League and the date that you are rolling off. They will enter the scores in the system and put the sheet in the SCBL folder.
You also have the option to pre-bowl and bank 3 games. The process is similar to rolling off, but those games can be used anytime during the season. Just mark on the score sheet provided that those games are banked and for Steel City Bowling League. You do not pay for the lanes. You still will owe SCBL for the games which can be made up the next Sunday you bowl.

What are the differences between Steel City Bowling League and Stonewall Bowling Pittsburgh?
Good question! Stonewall Bowling differs from Steel City Bowling League (SCBL) in the following ways:
- SCBL is a USBC sanctioned league, with payouts at the end of the season. Stonewall is a non-sanctioned recreational league and has no payouts at the end of the season, but the winners get a trophy.
- SCBL has a yearly registration fee of $30 per year, and weekly dues of $20. Stonewall is $50 a season.
- SCBL bowls on Sunday nights from 6:30 PM until 9 PM, and Stonewall bowls on Tuesdays from 7:30 PM until 11 PM.
- A SCBL season is 13 weeks, and Stonewall’s season is 9 weeks.
- SCBL teams have 4 members per team, and all scores of the team members count. Stonewall can have up to 6 members per team, but only 3 team member scores count per game.
- Stonewall has a summer league, while SCBL does not.
Many members of Steel City Bowling Leage bowl on both leagues! Since Stonewall is a very large and busy league with limited availability, you are always welcome to join the smaller Steel City Bowling League.
How competitive is Steel City Bowling League?
